BACKGROUND OF MODIMO KE SETSHABELO INVOLVEMENT IN WORKING WITH HIV AND AIDS ORPHANS
Setshabelo was set up in 2003 by the Bedfordview Methodist Church and it approached the Thokoza Methodist Church for the area of operation. Current members of our Management Committee include Christian communities. See the list of members Appendix 1. During the past six years we have focused on providing support to HIV and AIDS orphans through the structures of our religious communities. This includes the following:
- Helping the children to access foster and child support grants;
- Homework assistance at our after school centre;
- Helping the children to access the life documents for example certificates and identity documents;
- Life skills and mentorship program;
- Arts and crafts (Choir and beads making)
- Sports and recreation
- Computer literacy program
- Outdoor trips
- School uniform buying for the children at the centre
- Feeding scheme designed Setshabelo children.
- Weekly House visits by the Child and Youth Care Workers.
Until now, the work has been funded by contributions from our congregation, Rotary and other donations from individuals. We have not yet accessed the government funding and grants.
